Minnie Bows
I just had to do a quick post to share what I got for Mother's Day from my 5 year old, Matthew. Or as I sometimes refer to him on here "Big M" ("Little M" being my 2 year old, Miles). For those of you who don't know him, Matthew loves to make everything out of paper. And I do mean everything. Well for Mother's Day he was absolutely positive that what would make me really happy was a Minnie Mouse bow cookie cutter. So what did he do? He made it for me. Out of paper.
He's such a sweet heart! That's the card he made me complete with Minnie bow "cutter" on the left, and a "cutter" for the polka dots, on the right. He was so excited and so proud of his gift that of course I didn't have the heart to tell him that's not how it worked. So at night after he went to bed I hand cut a few bows and decorated them, leaving one for him to do.
I love that he loves making cookies with me, and I love that he tried so hard to think of something I would enjoy. Another bonus is that we got to eat the results, which happens so seldom in this house!
I hope everyone else's Mother's Day was great!

Queens
I don't even know where to start with this post... I have so many Cookiecon pictures to share! Between the people I met and the incredible cookies I saw, I'm a little overwhelmed. I'll have to do a post just chock full of pictures of everything, but in the mean time I want to share one of my sugar show submissions. This one was for the "anything goes" category. While this submission didn't win anything it's still my favorite set that I did! I recently stumbled upon this amazing artist. I literally love everything I've ever seen of hers and it's not often I can say that about someone! So I want to make it clear that the original artwork for this card set is not my own. And if you want to see some wicked awesome artwork go check out her page, her name is Brittney Lee.
Here is the picture the first caught my eye:
And I just thought...that would make such a cool cookie! Because isn't it totally normal that when I see something interesting I automatically start trying to translate it into icing? Well she is just so very much my style, I had to try! So here is my Queen of Spades cookie...
I had a lot of people asking me how I made them, and I did find one photo I took during the process:
I didn't want the icing layers to end up too high so I painted on thinned icing as the background, and when it was dry I painted on the shading details. After that I just outlined and filled in the area I wanted raised... and here is the final result:
That was just about the worst "tutorial" ever written, but hey it's what I've got! Pretty much the rest of the details were hand painted. Some of which are hard to see because while I am pretty decent with an icing bag... I am not the best at photographing things. So... sorry about that.
What do you think?
If she doesn't mind, I'll definitely be translating more of her work into icing!
I'll be back soon with my other show submission, and lots of other awesome things. In the meantime I'm giving away free cookies! So don't forget to enter!

Coming soon...
I just wanted to do a quick post to say that a real post is coming soon! I've had lots of new traffic (hello!) ever since the con and my most recent post was before my move (which is to say: way too long ago). Unlike most I'm still not home from Cookiecon yet but I'll be home this weekend with lots and lots of pictures! Until then... a peak at one of my Sugar Show entries...

feathers and such
First of all I have to say that these are some of my favorite cookies that I've made.
I mean seriously... feathers! I'd never done them before, and to be honest it was hard finding a cutter for them (especially one that didn't look cartoon-y to me) so in the end I made my own. I didn't want to hand cut them because I had a lot to make...
These were for my friend Kelsey's wedding. She was doing a magpie theme so we went with a combination of feathers, footprints, and their initials.
She even had a cool font picked out for their initials.
I liked the addition of the footprints because the feathers and initials are bold, and the footprint cookies have a simpler feel to them.
A couple more of those feathers, just because I liked them so much... in fact I must have liked them, because they were packaged up in Valentino boxes. Because apparently I'm that fancy...
And here they are at the wedding (I love seeing my cookies "in action", so to speak)

catching up
Life is busy - as always - so I've been neglecting this site. Although if you follow me on Instagram you'll know I haven't stopped baking! But I am way behind on pictures. Some of these will look familiar to those who do follow my Instagram, but not everything. Since this is a picture heavy post just click on the link at the bottom to see all of the pictures. Ok no more talking, here is a brief view of some of what I've been up to over the last 3 months or so (I'm saving a couple of my absolute favorites for posts of their own).

tutus and leopard print
I'm getting so far behind in my posts! I have so many cookies I haven't posted, so I'm going to try getting several short posts over the next week! These were for a baby shower, here is the invite...
I'm a sucker for girly themes - I just don't have enough pink in my life! Not with having 2 boys anyway. This zebra was one of my favorites...
And I got a lot of feedback when I posted the leopard print on instagram!
This little lion was another of my favorites, I love the leopard print in his mane!
I loved these zebra print cookies as well... with a name like Killer Zebras I feel like I should do more of this kind of thing but I really haven't done many animal prints! (so many possibilities there, I'll have to explore it more!)
And here are all of the characters... seriously I could never resist a combo of pink, tutus, and cute animals. So sweet!
